SIU Rejects Naloxone Request

On February 12, 2018, Director Tony Loparco of the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) responded to a letter sent to him in January 2018 regarding the SIU’s position on the deployment of Naloxone by police officers.  OACP President Chief Bryan Larkin urged the SIU to adopt a position similar to oversight bodies in other Canadian Provinces such as British Columbia, Alberta, and Quebec.  The Director has rejected the request. More worrisome is the fact that the Director has now attempted to extend the reach of the SIU to all lifesaving or other types of emergency medical treatment by police officers.

The OACP has requested a meeting with Attorney General Yasir Naqvi to discuss this matter.
