Police Leaders, AG Discuss Tulloch Recommendations

OACP President Chief Charles Bordeleau, First Vice President Chief J.P. Levesque, Executive Director Ron Bain and Director of Government Relations and Communications Joe Couto met with the Honourable Yasir Naqvi, Attorney General for Ontario, to provide input on the recommendations of Justice Michael Tulloch on the oversight of policing.  The AG asked for the input of Ontario’s police leaders on the important changes needed to ensure professional and accountable policing in the Province.

The OACP representatives touched on recommendations affecting the Special Investigations Unit, the OIPRD, OCPC, and police services Boards. As well, we discussed the proposal to establish a College of Policing in Ontario, our support for stand-alone legislation for police oversight, and the need for adequate funding for these government agencies as well as the Ontario Police College.
