Future of Police Advisory Committee Focuses on Governance Issues

OACP Executive Director Ron Bain reported to the Board of Directors on the April 6 Future of Policing Advisory Committee (FPAC) meeting, which was dedicated entirely to the “Civilian Governance” issue.  The Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services has developed a set of proposed approaches to consider in the following key areas:

  1. Ensure civilian police governance across all municipalities policed by the OPP
  2. Provincial governance for the OPP
  3. Clarify roles and responsibilities
  4. Enhance capacity of all police services boards
  5. Professionalize boards and address misconduct
  6. Strengthen and measure board effectiveness

More information is available as part of the Executive Director’s Report on the April 2017 OACP Board of Director Agenda.
