Cannabis Update

The Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP), in partnership with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), is hosting a one day meeting for police organizations on issues around the legalization of cannabis. This one day meeting is an opportunity for police services to share best practices, innovative approaches, lessons learned, and map out the way forward in relation to enforcing the new federal and provincial cannabis laws.

This meeting will take place on June 12, 2019 at the Toronto Police College, 70 Birmingham Street, Toronto, ON and is free to attend. However, registration is restricted to two positions per police service due to limited space availability. Please click here for registration information.

The meeting will focus on:

  • Cannabis enforcement and using the new federal and provincial legislation;
  • Drug impaired driving and the rollout of drug screening equipment;
  • Dealing with young offenders and the provincial youth diversion program;
  • Collecting data and conducting research on cannabis enforcement and drug impaired driving occurrences; and
  • Technological and innovative initiatives.

Presenters will include representatives from the OPP, Public Prosecution Service of Canada, the Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General and others.
