2017 OACP Diversity & Inclusion Symposium
This seminar is always well attended and space is limited - please register early!
On behalf of the OACP, the Diversity & Inclusion Network is holding their annual learning symposium in Orillia at OPP GHQ. The focus of this year's symposium is on the impact of hate. Hate Crimes and incidents pose a challenge for society as a whole and policing in particular. We know that communities across Ontario are feeling the impact of being targeted because of their race, ethnicity, religion, and sexual orientation - even while up to two-thirds do not report their victimization to police, according to Statistics Canada. As hate crimes are message crimes, we need to work collectively to challenge the division and fear they aim to sow. The symposium will provide an opportunity to hear from a range of relevant experts on these critical issues. Interactive sessions will increase understanding and empathy, while providing a space for us to share ideas on prevention, recognition, and responses to hate.
