Crime Prevention Award

This award will be presented to a police agency and a community organization/group that has developed an innovative crime prevention initiative or strategy that has contributed towards the prevention or reduction of crime in a specific area which ultimately resulted in the enhancement of community safety. 

The award is sponsored by Accident Support Services International. 

Outstanding Liqour Enforcement Award

This award will be presented annually to the police agencies which demonstrate excellence and innovation in liqour enforcement.  One award will be presented to an agency with more than 500 employees and one award will be presented to an agency with fewer than 500 employees. 

The award is sponsored by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. 

Crime Prevention Media Award

This award seeks to recognize the dedication and commitment of an individual in an Ontario police service who excels in the promotion of crime prevention through the filter of the media. 

The award is sponsored by the Insurance Bureau of Canada. 

Award for Excellence in Media Relations

This award is presented to a police officer/civilian media relations personnel who has devoted themselves and demonstrated a commitment to furthering media relations and assisted their police service in fostering good relations with media. 

The award is sponsored by 680News. 

 

Traffic Safety - Award of Excellence 

This award is presented to a serving individual who has clearly devoted part of their career dedicated to furthering traffic safety initiatives.  One officer will be selected annually to receive this prestigious award. 

The award is sponsored by the Ontario Minister of Transportation. 

 

The 2010 Substance Abuse Committee Grant

The purpose of the grant is to support community groups who are interested in applying for a grant $500.00 and $2,000.00 to initiate/support programs that deal directly with drug prevention and/or information sharing involving youth within the community.  Grant funds are made available through the generous efforts of A& P / Dominion Grocery Stores and the magazine 'Not for Adults'.

The Substance Abuse Committee is pleased to announce that thirty-one grants were awarded in June 2010.  Please see the attached file for grant recipients and supporting police services.

President’s Award of Merit

The President’s Award of Merit recognizes an OACP member(s) who has demonstrated outstanding dedication and support to the advancement of the goals and objectives of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police.

The OACP President presents the President’s Award of Merit at the OACP’s Annual Conference. 

Community Mobilization Award

This award is granted to a community or community agency that works with a police agency in mobilizing resources to address a particular issue.  This award recognizes a community that has exhibited exemplary on-going efforts designed to make their neighbourhood a safer, more secure place to live.

The award is sponsored by Accident Support Services International. 

Community Policing Award

This award recognizes a partnership between the police and the community they serve in identifying a specific concern and developing a successful, innovative solution to the issue.  Award winners will demonstrate their commitment to a Community Policing model in their approach to solving the problem. 

The award is sponsored by Accident Support Services International. 

Torch Run Award of Honour

This award is presented to an individual who has participated for at least five years in the Ontario Law Enforcement / Torch Run for Special Olympics as a coordinator/fundraiser.

A maximum of seven awards are presented annually.



Lifetime Achievement in Traffic Safety Award

This award is presented to an individual who has clearly devoted his or herself to furthering traffic safety initiatives. 

The award is sponsored by the Ontario Minister of Transportation. 

Traffic Safety Initiative of the Year Awards

These awards are presented to police organizations creating, developing and implementing successful traffic safety programs.  One award is presented to an organization with over 500 officers.  Another award is presented to an organization with less than 500 officers.

The award is sponsored by the Ontario Minister of Transportation. 

Victims Assistance Award

The Victims Assistance award recognizes and promotes the contributions made by members of Ontario Police Services, alone or in partnership with private or public community agencies, for improving the level of service provided to victims of crime, tragic events or other unfortunate circumstances.

The Award is sponsored by the Ministry of the Attorney General – Ontario Victim Services Secretariat.


Gimborn Scholarship

The Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) and the International Police Association, Ontario Regions (IPA) are pleased to offer The Gimborn Scholarship. This annual scholarship will be awarded to one Ontario police officer to travel to the IPA’s Conference Centre at Gimborn near Cologne, Germany and enroll in one of the IPA’s specialized policing seminars.  The scholarship covers the flight, accommodations, and seminar costs.
